Forklift Collision Avoidance Systems

ACAS Active Collision Avoidance System
ACAS Active Collision Avoidance System
We design and install advanced forklift collision avoidance systems to help our customers increase site safety. By installing a range of solutions on forklift trucks, we can reduce collisions and the possibility of accidents in the warehouse and other material handling operations. Forklift collision avoidance systems help drivers to carry out their day-to-day tasks more safely by increasing awareness in all the areas they work – from warehouses and production facilities to loading yard environments.

At Transmon Engineering, we specialise in identifying and deploying the most appropriate Forklift Collision Avoidance System, which is based on the individual application and customer requirements. We understand that every operation faces unique challenges, which is why our forklift collision avoidance solutions are tailored to address specific site risks, pedestrian patterns, and operational demands across different operational environments.

Our standard forklift collision avoidance system is one of the most advanced on the market, whilst still being simple to install – an active system that operates purely through the accelerator system rather than complex hydraulic arrangements. Our current system will slow the truck down when a hazard is detected and ultimately stop them, functioning in both forward and reverse directions.

How Our Forklift Collision Avoidance Systems Work

Our collision avoidance system continuously monitors the area around your forklift truck. When a hazard is detected – whether a person, object, or another vehicle – the system intervenes through the truck’s existing accelerator controls to reduce the forklift’s speed.

When an object is detected, the system automatically reduces speed through engine management or can bring the truck to a complete stop. This approach eliminates the complexity and cost of hydraulic brake systems whilst maintaining effective collision prevention. At the heart of the collision avoidance system is our iTEch forklift speed controller. This is the intelligent control unit that manages the truck’s speed in response to detected hazards.

The system works in both forward and reverse directions – a significant advancement from earlier reverse-only systems. Hazards are detected through either advanced forklift camera systems or proximity warning technology, depending on your specific requirements and site conditions. More information on the detection solutions is provided below, but we recommend both systems for maximum protection – cameras covering the most dangerous areas if someone isn’t wearing their proximity tag.

“Safety is our top priority, and importantly, on the Doosan automatic braking system the vehicle comes to a complete stop; the Transmon system on the Doosan trucks is better and safer, and that’s absolutely critical to us.”

    Advanced Sensor Fusion

Every warehouse operation faces unique challenges, which is why we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all collision avoidance systems. Our engineering team combines multiple technologies – cameras, proximity sensors, and more – to create bespoke forklift collision avoidance solutions tailored to your specific operational environment. At the heart of every system is our iTEch speed controller, the intelligent unit that manages the forklift’s response to detected hazards.

We’ve developed what we call sensor fusion – a method of combining data from multiple detection systems to work together rather than independently. For example, we might combine camera-based detection for visual confirmation with proximity warning technology for consistent personnel tracking, creating a comprehensive safety solution that adapts to your site’s unique operational demands.

    Our Hazard Detection Solutions

Transmon’s collision avoidance systems use multiple detection technologies to identify pedestrians, objects, and other vehicles around your forklift. We can deploy camera systems, proximity warning technology, or both depending on your operational requirements. The detection system integrates seamlessly with our iTEch speed controllers to provide automatic speed reduction or emergency stopping when hazards are identified.

    Camera-Based Detection System

Our camera-based detection system provides visual hazard identification using multiple cameras positioned around the forklift truck. The system monitors blind spots and high-risk areas, automatically triggering speed reduction when pedestrians or objects are detected. Cameras are particularly effective in open warehouse environments and provide operators with visual confirmation of detected hazards. The system can distinguish between different types of obstacles and provides graduated response based on proximity and risk level.

    Proximity Warning Detection System

The proximity warning system uses transponder technology to detect personnel and other equipped vehicles within configurable detection zones around your forklift. Each person carries a tag that communicates their location and status – whether they’re operating equipment or working as a pedestrian. The system provides precise directional information and logs all detection events for safety analysis. This technology works in all weather conditions and provides 360-degree protection, making it ideal for environments where consistent tag compliance can be maintained.

About Our Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

Our collision avoidance systems work alongside other safety technologies to provide comprehensive forklift protection. From speed control to proximity warning, we offer integrated solutions that can be tailored to your specific operational requirements.

“We invested in the Transmon forklift speed control system to ensure that our permanent and temporary team members were protected in key parts of the site. We were pleasantly surprised at how fast and simple the installation was and it has proven to be 100% reliable. Our forklift activity is now fully regulated and there has been a clear and demonstrable improvement in safety.”
